Does Slope Aspect Affect the Aboveground Tree Shape and Volume Allometry of European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Trees?

چکیده

In mountainous or hilly areas, the slope aspect affects amount of solar radiation, with direct consequences on species distribution and tree growth. However, little is known how shape volume allometry may be affected by contrasting environmental conditions driven aspect. This study aims to investigate whether aboveground European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) trees. We used data scanned trees from two plots located south- respectively north-facing slopes and, additionally, an inventory dataset containing measurements diameter at breast height (D) (H). To differences in shape, we analysis covariance. assess allometry, first predicted each individual within using either model, then performed a paired t-test plot estimates based models. Since uncertainty originating allometric model predictions was likely affect results t-test, Monte-Carlo simulation rate null hypothesis acceptance t-test. Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L

Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed. Patterns of red heartwood occurrence were defined. When excepting red heartwood there was still a highly significant effect of site and tree; differences remained after ...

Predicting red heartwood formation in beech trees (Fagus sylvatica L.)

Beech-forests (Fagus sylvatica L.) represent the natural vegetation cover for the majority of sites in Germany. Although coniferous forests actually dominate, beech is the most important among the deciduous tree-species in Germany, when considering the area and the economics. While the wood of the younger beech normally shows a whitish colour (white beech), the timber of older beech may form co...

Modelling individual tree height to crown base of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.)

Height to crown base (HCB) of a tree is an important variable often included as a predictor in various forest models that serve as the fundamental tools for decision-making in forestry. We developed spatially explicit and spatially inexplicit mixed-effects HCB models using measurements from a total 19,404 trees of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) o...

Parametric identification of a functional-structural tree growth model and application to beech trees (Fagus sylvatica)

Functional-structural models provide detailed representations of tree growth and their application to forestry seems full of prospects. However, due to the complexity of tree architecture, parametric identification of such models remains a critical issue. We present the GreenLab approach for modeling tree growth. It simulates tree plasticity in response to changes of their internal level of tro...

Temperature dependency of bark photosynthesis in beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and birch (Betula pendula Roth.) trees.

Temperature dependencies of stem dark respiration (R(d)) and light-driven bark photosynthesis (A(max)) of two temperate tree species (Fagus sylvatica and Betula pendula) were investigated to estimate their probable influence on stem carbon balance. Stem R(d) was found to increase exponentially with increasing temperatures, whereas A(max) levelled off or decreased at the highest temperatures cho...
